Our Mission
The Gulf Coast Rep advances theatre as an art form, telling impactful stories that inspire empathy, diversity, equality, and create a dialogue toward a more just future. With our passionate spirit and eclectic, artist-driven approach we will cultivate a local, national, and global following with an insatiable appetite for creative work.
The majority of programming will consist of new, original work and the remaining portion in well-known, established works to promote audience development. Our ultimate goal will be to establish a launching pad for new work on a commercial theatre path.
We will provide creative opportunities for a community of artists of all backgrounds and abilities. We are committed to being a permanent safe harbor for surprising work, offering a glimpse of the new and the next in American theatre.
We will create an alliance of arts organizations in our community and surrounding areas to cultivate the arts in a positive, forward-thinking environment.
The Gulf Coast Rep will provide educational programming for elementary, junior high, and high schools by touring a professional troupe to schools. This aspect of the organization will be in development and launch the first tour to schools for the 2025-26 school term. Programming will range from classic children’s literature, titles on school reading lists and one man shows of famous historical men and women.
