WHO IS TEACHING?
Our Artistic Director, Darren J. Butler leads the training. Darren has coached, directed, and been a successful playwright for 35 years. He is a member of The Dramatists Guild, The Writer's Guild (union for film and TV writers), and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, the professional union for stage directors. He holds an MFA from Point Park University. Darren's former and current students have gone on to attend some of the best universities and colleges in the country for acting including the California Institute of the Arts (Cal-Arts), NYU, and more. Former students and members of his acting troupes have gone on to work professionally in New York, LA on stage, film, and television. The resident acting troupe will receive foundational training in Darren's inner Voice Technique, a tool for actors that he has been developing for over ten years. www.darrenjbutler.com
In addition to Darren, members of the resident troupe will have the opportunity to train with award winning singer/songwriter/vocal coach, Judy Rodman to work on their voice for speaking and singing. www.judyrodman.com There are several guest instructors who will round out the faculty who are no stranger to the Broadway stage, big screen, and tv. We can make a list, post headshots, and "wow" you - but we're not looking for fans of famous people. The guest instructors who have agreed to help train the troupe want to work with serious artists who are present, dedicated, and willing to grow in their craft.
WHAT ARE THE PERFORMANCE PLANS?
The resident troupe will take on the name of "The Underlings." The troupe will have the opportunity to perform in new, immerging work in American theatre. Dramas, comedies, musicals, and work as an improvisational and sketch comedy troupe. There will be opportunities to perform, write, and direct work at The Rep. Members of "The Underlings" troupe will have the chance to work on the ongoing dessert theatre comedy, "JUST FRANK" as well as the dinner theatre performance of "MURDER IN OUR BUILDING." One of the key performance opportunities will be the development of "The Saturday Night Show" starting in October on Saturday nights at The Rep.
