SYNOPSIS
Philadelphia, summer 1776. As the Continental Congress debates independence, four young women — Addie, Meg, Elizabeth, and Victoria — watch history unfold from the margins of it. Addie, fiercely intelligent and scarred by her father's death in the militia, resists the revolution not from cowardice but from grief — and from a question no delegate is asking: what does freedom mean for us?
When Jacob, the man she loves, quietly enlists with General Washington's army, Addie is forced to confront the gap between the nation being born and the one she actually wants to live in. Through letters written by moonlight and arguments fought in meadows and halls, the characters grapple with loyalty, love, courage, and the price of a promise.
Spanning from the signing of the Declaration of Independence through the ratification of the Constitution in 1788, We The People is an intimate portrait of ordinary people caught inside extraordinary history — and a pointed reminder that the founding document's most urgent question remains unanswered: who exactly is included in "We the People"?
