How do I audition?

Auditions are open to everyone, regardless of experience!

Auditions for The Gulf Coast Rep productions are open to everyone.

Q: The Gulf Coast Rep is a professional company. What does that mean?

A: That's a great question. First of all, I think the word "professional" has several interpretations here. Yes, our actors and crew will be paid for their work. We are running multiple weekends of shows. It's a big commitment. Therefore, we want to pay a fair wage to compensate people for their time. Second, we are looking for actors with a professional mindset. This is a job. We need people who who want to hone their craft, commit to creating a high level piece of art, and help us fulfill our mission.

Q: Are you doing self-tapes or in-person auditions?

A: Both. We will offer the self-tape option for those who are unable to attend in-person open calls. Honestly, post-pandemic this is pretty much standard in the industry. Self-tapes can be as simple as you with your smart phone in front of a solid color wall. In fact, we will have some self-tape instructions for newbies to help them out. The self-tape is our first look at who you are as an actor and what you could potentially bring to a role. Once we review the self-tapes, our Production Manager will call you  into an in-person audition with other potential cast members with the director and his/her production staff.

Q: Are auditions open to anyone?

A: Absolutely. Our director, Darren Butler, will tell you that he is less concerned about your resume and more focused on your abilities and what you could potentially bring to a role. We believe there are lots of extremely talented actors and actresses out there!

Q: Will you be bringing in talent from other places? Stars?

A: Yes. From time to time, we will be bringing in actors from other places including Equity actors. But look at this as an opportunity to work with people who are successful in their craft. It's an opportunity to work alongside them and learn.
